Nov. 29 Devotion: Lost its Luster

Lost its Luster?

Psalm 51:10-12

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. [11] Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. [12] Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Growing up I always enjoyed going shopping with my mom. That’s what got me into truly enjoying shopping. Today is the day I used to look forward to. I was one of those that would be out at 3AM standing in line for a new tv or gun or something. However, over time today has really lost its luster. There are so many sales leading into it and you can find better deals through the year. It’s just something I don’t look forward to it the way I used to. You’d think when it’s something you enjoy that it wouldn’t get to that point but at times it does.

Think of our text verses. Do we need the joy of our salvation restored as it talks about in verse 12? It’s easy to get caught up in the monotony of work, bills, and just life in general. We can allow that to get us looking at everything around us and lose the joy that we had when the Lord saved us. Remember that excitement? Remember that burden lifted off of you when the Lord was convicting your life? What has happened to our joy? When you look at people’s faces can you tell the difference between those saved and those who aren’t? As born again believers we should have a joy this world knows nothing about! They joy and peace that God gives! The joy of an eternal home we have to look forward to. The joy that God would love us enough to even look our way! If the world has you beaten down ask Him to restore unto you that joy you once had!

God bless!
