Nov. 8 Devotion: Following In Darkness

Following In Darkness

John 9:7,11

And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. [11] He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

Even though I am very blessed to still be able to see very well it can still be uneasy at times driving at night. Especially if it’s in a place with little light or if it happens to be raining. It can be very difficult to see the road and there can always be that concern about what might jump out in front of you. Especially during the rain I’ve found myself just trying to follow lines on the road since you can’t see much of anything else. Trying to follow in darkness can be a frightening and difficult task.

Think of the blind man here in our text. He’s been blind since birth. We see in vs. 7 Jesus has placed the clay upon his eyes and instructed him to go wash. It’s not until this man came back that he could see! Scripture doesn’t tell us that anyone else led this man to the pool of Siloam. He went in darkness under the instruction of Jesus and then came back seeing! In verse 11 he breaks it down for his neighbours and tells them exactly what happened and how he regained his sight. When God speaks to us through His Word and leads us in a certain direction we need to be willing to just follow his instructions and do what He’s instructed us to do. It seems easy when everything is going well. However, those instructions don’t change during the dark days. Those instructions don’t change just because we may not be able to see what is coming or may not understand how things are going to work out. Those dark times are when our faith is truly being put to the test and we have no idea the blessings that are potentially on the other side of the dark time you may be in. Just continue to trust and follow Him!

God bless!
