Oct. 11 Devotion: Almost

Almost

Exodus 17:3-4 [3] And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? [4] And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

We find here the children of Israel in the wilderness. Moses has led them up out of Egypt. We find in the previous chapter they are blessed with manna from heaven to eat. Now they find themselves wanting a drink, and even after everything God has brought them through they still begin to murmur against Moses. Moses calls upon the Lord and says the people are, “almost ready to stone me.” That word almost is found 11 times in the Bible. Probably the most known time is: Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian. We know this is Agrippa response to Paul after Paul asks him if he believest. I wonder what we could see God accomplish through us if we weren’t “almost” where we needed to be. How many times have we been in a revival meeting and be on fire for God and only two weeks later we revert back to our normal routine just a few weeks later. We were “almost” there. Think back to a time when you had a need that God met. You were so thankful and wanted to let everyone know what God had done. Then the next time something comes up we act just like Israel and begin to murmur and forget what God has brought us through. Our pastor has mentioned multiple times that the world has yet to see what God could do with one church sold out to God. That sold out church has to start with sold out individuals. We too often are almost sold out, but just have something in our life that we want to hold on to that prevents us from being completely sold out to the cause of Christ. Don’t start out this week as the same Christian you have been and be almost the Christian God wants you to be. Instead be that person God wants you to be and see just what He can do through you!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
