A Dividing Line
2 Corinthians 6:16-17 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. [17] Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing ; and I will receive you,
I don’t remember exactly the cartoon or show but I seem to remember a scene that went something like this: Two characters are having a dispute and one draws a line in the sand and says if you cross this line then we are going to have problems. The other then proceeds to cross the line. The first character then again draws a line and makes the same statement. The line again is crossed. You can see how this could then go on forever. I wonder how many of us have done the same thing with the world. We ourselves put down an imaginary line that we said we’d never cross. Then we cross it. So instead of stopping and going back we just draw another line. Then we cross it. We then find ourselves way closer to the world than we are God. In verse 17 of our text we are instructed to be separate. If we are going to be separate then that means there has to be a dividing line somewhere. There are plenty of so called churches that have moved the line so much you could walk in and not tell the difference if you were in a church or your local coffee shop. They have continually moved towards the world in order to attract a crowd. It’s not our job to move towards the world. It’s not our job to blend in with the world. We are to be separate from the world. Being separate says there are lines that we just should not cross. There are things that we just shouldn’t be wrapped up in. That happens by staying close to God and not allowing ourselves to venture close to the line. Have you crossed a line somewhere? Did you ask God to help you and get back on the correct side or have you just continued to venture farther away?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
