Oct. 24 Devotion: On Their Level

On Their Level

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. [15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. [16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

We often hear verse 14 referred to when someone might say they don’t understand the Bible. We see that Scripture tells us that someone who is not saved is not going to have an understanding of the Bible. We know it is spiritually discerned. That comes with studying, rightly dividing, praying to God for understanding, etc. These things should help us to be in the proper mindset in our lives. That mindset is important when it comes to dealing with those who don’t have an understanding of the Scripture and those that are lost. Not every lost person is on the same level. Going to services in the jail you realize there is a wide variety of mindsets when it comes to the things of God. You’ll come across some that have never been to church and Scripture is completely foreign to them. You have some that might know a little, but still don’t know what salvation is all about. Then you have some that have been in and out of some so called churches and they they can work their way to heaven or get in some other way besides trusting in Jesus. This group can even include some that they don’t view themselves as that bad and therefore think they are ok. Each of these have to be dealt with a different way. Think about our everyday lives. If you have multiple kids they have to be dealt with in different ways. It may take yelling at some, while another might respond better to a good talking to. You see employees have to be dealt with differently. Some may need that pat on the back on occasion while some would just prefer to be left alone to just be able to come in, do their job, and then go home. People are all on different levels of maturity, as well as react differently to situations. Sharing the Gospel is the same. People are all reached differently. It’s up to us to get the mind of God and discern how to reach each person we have an opportunity to share the Gospel with. Do you seek the mind of God in dealing with others and the best way to reach them?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
