Oct. 30 Devotion: You Can

You Can

2 Kings 23:24-25 Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD. [25] And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

Drugs, alcohol, homosexuality, abortion, etc. The list can just go on and on of all the wickedness that’s in this world. It can be very easy to sit back and think there’s nothing I can do to change anything so I’ll just pray that Jesus returns quickly! That is our “easy out” attitude when we think we can’t change anything. Look at the difference Josiah made when he had abominations put away. Look at the life of missionary John Geddie. He arrived on the island of Aneityum in 1848 and worked there for twenty-four years. When he arrived this island was full of wickedness. As I read some of the stuff that went on there I was thinking at least it’s not that bad here. There were things going on there that make you cringe in unbelief that those types of things could go on This island was absolutely full of wickedness! However, Geddie just continued to work in making a huge impact for God. To the point that after his death a tablet erected in his memory read,

In memory of John Geddie, D.D., born in Scotland, 1815, minister in Prince Edward Island seven years, Missionary sent from Nova Scotia to Aneityum for twenty-four years. When he landed in 1848, there were no Christians here, and when he left in 1872 there were no heathen.

Think about the impact he has to have made to have that last statement written! Are we even attempting to have that kind of impact around us? I believe if we want to have that kind of impact then we need to do 2 things:

  1. Be willing and available to be used of God. Mr. Geddie doesn’t make that impact if he don’t go. Don’t fall in the trap that God can’t use you or you aren’t good enough or whatever. It’s been said many times. God’s not looking at our ability, but our availability.

  2. Realize it’s not your impact to make. If you want to make an impact to make a name for yourself you’ll get nowhere. It’s God that has to do the work through you. It’s God having an impact on those around you.

If you have willingness to be used and pointing others to Him you can make an impact! If God was done with us or done with this world then He would’ve called us out of here. He hasn’t done that yet so there is still time to impact others for His Glory!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
