1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
It is interesting that Halloween would fall on the day that it is my turn to write the day’s devotion. I’ve had a few run-ins over the years concerning this, so I’ll make these thoughts brief.
This is not a harmless day for children to get candy. We use the phrase celebrating Halloween as if there was something about it to celebrate. It is not an event that is designed to honor God. It is designed to uplift those things that are in opposition to God.
Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God…
Halloween is not of a holy spiritual nature but is concocted from a carnal mind.
1 John 2:15-16
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Halloween does not proceed from God but is from the world and therefore is contrary to God.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
What kind of spirit wants to take anybody in a direction that is contrary to God except a spirt that is against God?
I would ask us all to look at the following verses when we are deciding to do whatever we do (no matter if it is Oct. 31 or any other day). These don’t sound like verses that would approve of celebrating Halloween.
1 Corinthians 10:31-33
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
