Oct. 4 Devotion: One Spoke, Jesus Heard

One Spoke, Jesus Heard

Luke 18:35-40 [35] And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: [36] And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. [37] And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. [38] And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. [39] And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. [40] And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

Why is so much wickedness being pushed and accepted nowadays? Somewhere along the line Christians have decided to just accept things and move on. Do we feel it’s not worth the argument? Did we think things wouldn’t continue to get worse? Do we think our voice don’t matter? I preached out of this text on Wednesday evening. Looking back there are a couple things that I want to look at in this text. When the blind man is told it is Jesus coming he cries out in verse 38 asking for mercy. Then notice in verse 39 it uses the word “they” rebuked and told him to hold his peace. So he obviously just went back to begging and missed his chance to have Jesus move in his life. NO! Instead it says he just cried out more! What happens then? Jesus commands him to be brought to him in verse 40. We then know Jesus tells him to receive his sight, and that his faith hath saved him. We have a prime example of one voice being heard over the multitude. Are we going to stand and let our voice be heard? Are we going to realize that no matter how big “they” might be, we serve a bigger God! Are we tired enough yet of what this world has become to make a stand? We will let our voice be heard our cower to the “they” crowd?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
