On The Inside
1 Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Ever go to look at a house that looks beautiful on the outside, only to find the inside trashed and rundown? Or maybe those roles are switched. I’ve seen old cars that the body may look it’s age, but the inside has been restored and may even look better than new. Think of the advice Paul is passing on to Timothy here. If you go back and read up to our text verse you’ll see the instructions and advice Paul is passing on. Then in our text he tells Timothy to not let anyone look down at him because of his youth. How often do we look at people and judge based on their age. Good or bad. We may think someone can’t possibly know how to handle something because they are too young. We may even give an older person more credit than we should just because we think they’ve probably seen and been through a lot. Neither of those may necessarily be the case. If we are to be the example that Paul talks about then it’s what’s on the inside that matters. The more God we put In ourselves through Scripture, through prayer, through preaching and teaching the more He will show out. When we truly desire to follow Him and do His will for our life He will equip us to handle any situation regardless of our age or experience. Think of what the Bible tells us in 1 Samuel: 1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
God looks on the inside so that’s what we should do as well. Don’t make assumptions on someone based on age or experience. Instead let’s make our determination based on the example they set forth “in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
