Difficult Situations
Titus 1:10-13 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: [11] Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake. [12] One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. [13] This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Could you imagine being sent to a place like this to set it in order? As it says in verse 12 it was full of liars, evil beasts, and slow bellies (gluttons). It was a place full of wickedness. If you read farther down in the chapter you’ll find it even talks about their mind and conscience being defiled. This is where Titus finds himself after Paul has left him there to do a work. Titus was to speak sound doctrine to the people of Crete. This is no doubt a difficult situation. However, Paul would not have Titus here if he didn’t believe he could handle the situation. Just as God wouldn’t place us in a situation unless He knew we could handle it. How many co-workers you have that you just think there is no way they will ever believe? Every other word is a curse word, they just live worldly, and you’ve been around them long enough to think there’s no way. How many family members you have that could be lost? They might even be good people that just don’t see their need for God. Each of these circumstances can be difficult to navigate. What’s the right thing to say? When is the right time to say something? These situations are times when we must seek God and His direction and timing. While you might have some around you that you might look at as difficult to reach don’t give up hope. Remember this verse: 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Keep praying. Keep living a life before them that glorifies Christ. Keep looking for an opening to share the Gospel. God is still in the saving business and they could be the next one to call on God!
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
