Sept 1 Devotion: Prevailing When Peril is Prevalent

2 Timothy 3:1 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”

The Apostle Paul wrote this verse (and the rest of this chapter) to Timothy in order to forewarn him of the dark and dangerous times of the last days. He says men would wax worse and worse, forsaking God and embracing the flesh and the world.

In the wake of a heinous act of violence, it’s clear that the day and age in which we live is growing worse. But I have good news, that means the Lord is closer to coming for His Church than ever.

The times are more perilous than ever, yet we can still have a tremendous impact on the world with the time we have left. God is still the same yesterday, today and forever. So what are we willing to do about it? In order to Prevail in Perilous Times we must:

1) Forsake all and Follow Him-Just as Peter, James and John left their fishing equipment when Jesus called them, and the woman at the well left her water pot, every Christian should put aside the worthless and follow Jesus without any hesitation. How many do not make an impact on the world because they are caught between following the Lord and living the life they wish for themselves? 2) Face adversity without Fear-I can do all things through Christ. If adversity is in my path it is because the Lord allowed it to be so. Adversity is not cause to back down and cower, it’s a chance to prove our conviction and show that it is always worth standing on the Lord’s side. 3) Finish your Course-What good is it to run 26.1 miles of a marathon (which is 26.2 miles in total)? Why sow a seed and then never reap the harvest? The world is full of promises that go unfulfilled and false hope. Demonstrate what it means to be a good soldier of Jesus Christ by continually pressing on. Finish and show others that the race was worth every mile.

As the times grow more perilous our light as Christians should shine ever brighter. Every step that we take should chase away the dark and reach someone else with the Word of the Lord.

Your fellowservant in Christ, Bro. Jordan Foster
