Sept 10 Devotion: Not Just Words

Not Just Words

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

I remember as a kid hearing a couple things: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. I’m rubber, you’re glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you. These are funny and playful and can easily be laughed off. However, sometimes we fail to realize the impact of the words we say. We think that whatever we say to someone should never be viewed as hurtful, rude, etc. We forget at times that words can have a huge effect on someone’s life. It would help society greatly if we’d learn at times to just be nicer, or not say anything at all. How often do we view God’s Word in the same light, as just words? Our text verse here tells us “All scripture….” We don’t get to pick and choose what we view as profitable or what we should heed to. There can be times when we start studying the Word of God and we get to parts that can point out places in our lives that God isn’t pleased with. That doesn’t mean to stop studying or move on to something a little less “hard.” We should focus on all scripture because it is profitable for our lives. None of it is just words on a page. How do you view the Word of God? Do you look at it as instruction for your life? Do you see it as profitable to your daily walk? Do you view it as a bunch of words and a collection of stories?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
