I’m One of Them
Mark 14:66-72
And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest: [67] And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. [68] But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. [69] And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them. [70] And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto. [71] But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak. [72] And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.
While Jesus was on trial Peter was being accused of being a follower of the Lord. Most of us have something in common with Peter. In a time of fear he denied that he was with the Lord. Sometimes we can follow in Peter's footsteps, but thankfully that is not the end. He was warming himself with the very people that was crucifying the Lord. It was those people that Peter was standing around with that accused him of being a follower of Jesus. While Peter was cursing and swearing he was still one of them that followed him. Proving that the new birth can not be removed by some acts of bad behavior. I'm thankful that salvation is a gift of God by God's grace. Just like Peter, when you fail to obey what God says God's grace is sufficient to forgive us and get us back on track. There are people who believe that their good behavior will keep them in good standing with God. The Bible states that there is none good, no not one. If you’re depending on your good works to save you you'll never make it.
God bless
