Sept 20 Devotion: More God?

More God?

Genesis 3:6

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Who remembers the Wavy Lays commercials from back in the day about bet ya can’t eat just one chip? I remember one where a kid traded seats all the way down the stands and ends up playing QB in a game by making that challenge to people. Why is it we always seem to want more? Think of Adam and Eve in the garden. They are created by God, placed in the garden and have absolutely everything they could possibly ever need or want. God has given them nearly everything! He even comes down and walks and talks with them. Yet they still want the only thing God has told them they couldn’t have. They had it made, but still wanted more! We fall in that same cycle too often. We too often want more stuff, more toys, more clothes, more money, etc. We just too often want more.

Why does that desire not transfer to wanting more God? When was last time we prayed a little more? When was last time we studied a little more? When was last time we prayed for revival to truly break out so we could spend more time in His house? Think back to earlier this summer and you hear of a church being in revival for 8 weeks. What’s your first thought? Is it: That would be wonderful to be in Gods house that much and see people getting help! Or is it: That would wear me out and get me so behind on things at home. Which mindset are we closer to?

As this world continues it’s craziness we need more of God for sure. The question is do we desire more of Him?

God bless you today!
