Sept. 22 Devotion: The Fathers Voice

The Fathers Voice

Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

If you watch much tv at all there are many voices that we come to recognize. It could be actors, sports play by play guys, announcers, even news people. People that you’ve seen and heard so much that you just recognize their voice. Think about those that you are closest to and how you’d recognize their voice even if you were in a crowded room how you’d be able to pick it out. Sometimes a certain voice will have an affect on us. It could be an actor that always played a villain or something so you’d associate their voice with being scared. It could be a voice that would bring you comfort or joy to hear. Think of the comfort Abrahams voice had to bring to Isaac. Isaac knew what was going on which is why he asked Abraham where the burnt offering was in vs. 7. Genesis 22:7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? Isaac trusted his father and not only did they go together, but we know that Abraham was ready to offer up Isaac. Genesis 22:9-10 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. [10] And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. How about when the Lord speaks to us? How well do we listen? Do we know His voice? Do we spend enough time with Him to recognize it? How well do we follow what He says? Do we put our faith and trust in Him and follow Him wherever He leads us? We’ve heard it said many times: No matter what storms may come the safest place we can be is in the center of Gods will. Do we follow His will for our life even if we think something is missing or we don’t understand what’s going on? Listening to the Fathers voice should give us peace and comfort in knowing He knows what’s best for us and He won’t lead us astray if we follow Him!

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
