Commitment Issues
Matthew 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
“To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.” This is a typical phrase you’d see in a wedding ceremony. It’s also the phrase most seem afraid of. I’d guess most of us at some point have been around someone that people would tell them they wouldn’t get married because they have commitment issues. Think of our text verse. This young man has come to Jesus to ask what he has to do to have eternal life. We know what Jesus told him. Jesus’s response is what leads us to our text verse. This young man had great possessions, he was successful, he did not want to sell what he had in order to follow Jesus. He would rather stay committed to the things of this world. What commitment issues do we have when it comes to the things of God? Are you committed to God? Does He have your heart?
Are you committed to His Word? Is it impressed upon your heart?
Are you committed to the church? Do you put your heart into the things you do at church?
Are you committed to His calling for your life? We all have something God has for us to do. How committed are we to that plan for our life? Do we follow it when it’s convenient or as long as it is easy? Do we follow His plan regardless of our thoughts? We are committed to our spouse, committed to our losing sports teams, committed to our job. All sorts of things here on this earth. Are you more committed to worldly things or heavenly things?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
