The Fear In Commitment
In the devotion on Friday I touched a bit on commitment issues. I talked about our lack of commitment to the things of God. Today I want to look at why might we have those issues. Why are we not willing to sell out to God? I believe it mostly comes down to one word: Fear!
Fear of unknown We become fearful when we don’t know the path that is to come. If you’d trust God then He will light that path for us. We can never go wrong getting into and following His Word! Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Fear of outcome What if I surrender to God and He calls me to be a pastor or missionary. What if He wants me to be a missionary’s wife. Unfortunately we look at these things and only the hardships they may bring. The persecution we could face. The people we’d have to deal with. The tough decisions we may then be faced with. All that God has done for us we should see it as a privilege to get to do anything in service for Him! Regardless of what we face, it fails in comparison to what He has for us. Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Fear of man What will my family say if I was sold out for Christ? Will my co-workers treat me differently? We get so wrapped up in mans opinion of us that it holds us back from what God has for us. It will keep us from doing His will, and could keep us from some things He desires to bless us with. Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.
What fear is keeping you from just being fully committed to God today?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
