Sept. 29 Devotion: What A Compliment

What A Compliment

Genesis 41:37-38 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. [38] And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

One of the things that can make us all feel good is getting a compliment from someone. You might get a compliment on your looks, or maybe you fixed some kind of wonderful dish someone liked and they compliment you on it. Regardless of the reason a well timed compliment can really raise your day. Take a moment and think of Pharoah and Joseph here for a moment. We know Pharoah has had a dream. Joseph is stuck in a dungeon and word gets back to Pharoah that Joseph could interpret his dream for him. So they take Joseph out, clean him up, and take him before Pharoah. When Pharoah tells Joseph what he wants him to do Joseph doesn’t try to prop himself up, doesn’t try to deal his way to not go back to the dungeon. He just tells Pharoah that God is going to do this for him. Genesis 41:16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace. Pharoah then begins to tell Joseph the dream he had and Joseph in turn tells Pharoah that there are about to be 7 plenteous years followed by 7 years of famine. Joseph let’s Pharoah know how he needed to set someone up to be in charge and make sure they were then prepared for the famine to come. We then find a question in verse 38: Genesis 41:38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? From here we know Joseph is put in charge and we also know how that in turn helps his own family when his brothers come to get food during the famine. However, think of what Pharoah said in the question that he asked. “A man in whom the Spirit of God is.” Could there be such a compliment given to us? Can the world look at us and say they can see the Spirit of God in us? Can the world see such a difference in us that they can look at us and know that we are someone who has spent some time with the Lord? Oh to be given the compliment that we would be found Christ like! Can that be said if you today?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
