Such A Time As This
Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Here in our text verse we find a reply from Mordecai to Esther. If you read earlier in chapter 3 as well as earlier in chapter 4 you find how Haman had then conspired to kill the Jews. Mordecai had sent a message to Esther that she should go into the king and make supplication for him. After her response back we get to our text verse. What if she was placed into the kingdom for “such a time as this.” Think about what goes on in society today. Based on Scripture there is a very good possibility we could see the return of Christ in our lifetime. That means God has placed us here in this time. Did you ever think that you could be here for just a time as this. God could’ve placed you in this world 500 years ago if that had been His will. Instead, we each find ourselves with an opportunity to do something for Him before it’s too late. When you look into Esther you won’t find the word God. When you look into the world they want nothing to do with God. This wasn’t always the case. In my lifetime even I remember when even the lost would have respect for God and the church. That’s not the case nowadays. As we celebrate the American worker this Labor Day I’ll ask: What are you doing as a Christian worker? You’ve been placed in a world that needs God. The more I talk with people the more I realize there is a great number out there who have lived their entire lives in this country yet know little to nothing about God or His church. There are many on the job who will do the bare minimum to get by. Put in the hours they are supposed to and nothing extra. Has that attitude crept into our Christian lives? Ever thought that “I go to church when doors are open so I do my part.” Ever think of a list in your head on what you say you do and think that’s enough? (We could get into what is your reasoning for doing things if that is your attitude, but I digress.) When was last time we went above and beyond for God? When was last time we did something outside of our comfort zone. When was last time you did something for God just because, and not because it was easy or the norm? This world needs us to stand out, not blend in. What are we doing to uplift His name? What are we doing for His name? What are we doing to get His name out into a lost world? Matthew gives us a sense of what is going on today:
Matthew 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
We’ve been placed here in this time to make a difference. Are you making that difference? Are you one of the few?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
